How to Get Rid of the Appearance of Puffy Eyes

There’s nothing worse than waking up after a long and relaxing night’s sleep, only to be met with puffy eyes that make you look like you’ve had none at all. Whether it’s a one-off or a regular occurrence, under eye puffiness is something we all have to deal with at one time or another – but what causes puffy eyes and how can you reduce their appearance?

What causes puffy eyes?

Puffy eyes are caused by an accumulation of fluids in the skin tissue around the eye area. As the skin in this area is so thin and delicate, this fluid can cause irritation, making the eye swell and become discolored. The fluid build-up can be triggered by genetic and lifestyle factors:

Dry skin

Dry skin types may find that they have particularly puffy eyes in the morning. If the skin isn’t receiving enough hydration and nourishment, the eye area may become even more dry and sensitive, encouraging signs of aging – including under eye puffiness.

Sleeping in makeup

Forgetting to remove your makeup before bed is another cause of puffy eyes. Failing to remove makeup from the eye area can lead to irritation and block the glands around the eyes, causing them to swell overnight.

Harsh products

Applying products around the eye area that contain harsh chemicals or alcohols can make the already-delicate area even more sensitive, causing redness, swelling and puffiness. If you think your products may be irritating your eyes, stop using them immediately.

How to get rid of puffy eyes

To help combat the look of puffy under eyes, try the below advice.

1. Get enough sleep

Tiredness can affect the health of skin in a number of ways – including emphasizing the appearance of dark circles and eye bags. Getting the recommended 7 to 9 hours of sleep every night will help to maintain healthier-looking under eyes.

2. Hydrate the eye area

Did you know that the skin under the eye loses moisture 50% faster than the rest of the face? Dehydrated skin is not only prone to puffiness but fine lines and wrinkles. To tackle these skin concerns effectively, it’s important to infuse moisture and hydration into the skin to help it look plump and healthy.

No7 Youthful Eye Serum is formulated with hyaluronic acid and other anti-aging, moisturizing ingredients to help visibly reduce the appearance of puffiness, wrinkles and dark circles, while improving firmness.

3. Introduce retinol into your eye care routine

Retinol supports the skin’s natural renewal process, helping to improve the appearance of dark circles and puffiness.

No7 Pure Retinol Eye Cream is specifically formulated to be gentle to the eye area. Its lightweight formula combines .05% pure retinol with soothing shea butter, bisabolol and No7’s famous Matrixyl 3000+™ collagen peptide technology to help reduce the appearance of under eye puffiness. With continued use, skin looks firmer, brighter and more hydrated.

4. Use a cooling tri-ball applicator

Applying a cold compress for 10 minutes can also help to relieve tired, puffy under eyes. Alternatively, keep your eye cream in the fridge or use a cooling tri-ball applicator to soothe and cool the skin.

No7 Radiance+ Roll & Glow Eye Cream boasts a cooling tri-ball applicator that helps to reduce the look of puffiness, dark circles and fine lines. Skin looks refreshed, rested and radiant.

5. Apply an anti-aging eye cream

Anti-aging eye creams are designed to address the key signs of aging around the eyes: dark circles, eye bags and under eye puffiness.

No7 Lift & Luminate Triple Action Eye Cream blends out powerful anti-wrinkle peptide formula with our firming complex of hyaluronic acid and hibiscus to help minimize the appearance of puffy under eyes

6. Relax with a cooling eye mask

By creating a cooling, airless layer on the skin, eye masks offer an effective delivery of ingredients to the eye area, targeting puffiness and dark circles.

No7 Instant Results Eye Masks are designed to adhere seamlessly to the under-eye contour. They’re infused with a brightening formula of Vitamins C and E that work together to reduce the appearance of puffiness. Eyes feel instantly refreshed and eye bags appear reduced.
